Fact Check: Zagreb Is NOT Buying Garbage Trucks From Mozambique Fact Check: Zagreb Is NOT Buying Garbage Trucks From Mozambique Denial By Firm

Is the city-owned company Zagrebački Holding buying garbage trucks from Mozambique for its branch waste management company Čistoća? No, that's not true: A spokesperson from Zagrebački Holding told Lead Stories that this claim is false.

The claim originated from a video (archived here) on TikTok by user @nemozemo on December 3, 2023, under the title (translated from Croatian to English by Lead Stories staff): "We are the first in mustard-city who have the information" (Mustard is the nickname of Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević). It began (as translated):

We exclusively learn that the de facto new tram is not the only Christmas gift from Mustard to the citizens of Mustard-city, formerly known as Zagreb. Namely, as we know, Mustard has started to modernize Čistoća and the purchase of de facto new trucks from Mozambique has already been agreed.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

Lead Stories contacted Zagrebački Holding about the claim. In a December 5, 2023, email, Vlado Suša, information officer, responded that the claim is false.

The information from the video is not correct, I would say it is bad sarcasm.

Čistoća, the Zagrebački Holding company's branch that specializes in waste management, is buying 26 garbage trucks. The City of Zagreb has launched a public procurement with an estimated value of 7.19 million euros ($7.7 million) through financial leasing. Information about the truck manufacturer and country of origin is not publicly available.
